Postal Vote Applications for the forthcoming State Election have been pouring into the Office of the Member for Davidson, Jonathan O'Dea.

"Many people are indicating they will be away overseas or interstate, while others who find it difficult to attend a polling booth due to ill health, are also applying," Mr O'Dea said.

"Over 1,500 Postal Vote Applications have been received by my office and extra staff have been employed to handle the volume of work.

"The Electoral Commission began posting out ballot papers early this week so those who lodged their applications early should soon start receiving their ballot papers in the mail," he said.

"Pre-poll voting is now also available for those who may find it difficult to attend a polling booth on 26 March. While I will be attending two dozen polling booths on election day, I won't be voting at them. Instead, I will be voting at the Pre-poll booth tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday) from 3.00 pm," Mr O'Dea said.

The address for Davidson Pre-poll voting is 2 Minna Close, Belrose and the opening hours are 8.00am to 6.00pm, Monday to Friday. The hours will be extended to 8.00pm on Thursday 24 March and the booth will open on Saturday, 19 March from 9.00am to 5.00pm – but not on polling day.

"Another alternative is the new "ivote" computerised system, for those with a disability and for those who will be outside NSW on 26 March. However, ivote can only be used until 6.00pm on Friday, 25 March – not on election day. More details can be found at www.ivote.nsw.gov.au or by phoning 1300 02 2011," Mr O'Dea said.

On Saturday, 26 March, polling booths will open between 8.00am and 6.00pm and voting is compulsory. The fine for failing to vote is $55.

"My office is only too happy to take enquiries regarding election processes and can be contacted on 9880 7400 during office hours," Mr O'Dea said.
