Jonathan's connection to the North Shore goes back to his childhood, growing up here as one of nine siblings. He attended schools on the North Shore and crossed the bridge to study Arts and Law at Sydney University.
He lives in Lindfield with his wife, Jacqueline, and their four sons. He is a keen spectator of, and participant in, many sports, especially tennis. Walking in the local bush is another pastime he enjoys. One of his favourite places is the electorate’s only beach, at Echo Point, Roseville Chase.
Jonathan was elected as the member for Davidson in 2007 and is now the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in the NSW Parliament. He previously served in local government and on the boards of various non-profit organisations. Professionally, he has worked as a lawyer, general manager and company director. He holds two bachelor degrees, two master’s degrees and other post graduate qualifications.
His first speech to Parliament, ‘Building on Traditions - Foundations for Tomorrow’, in part, advocated for environmental measures to ensure future generations can enjoy our natural heritage. Read the speech here.
Jonathan believes development should be appropriate and supported by infrastructure and services, while duly protecting the built and natural environment.
Having a sense of constituents’ concerns is important to Jonathan and he understands that when people contact him they want prompt action. The independent FairGO Votergrams service has repeatedly rated him as the most responsive politician in NSW.
