Member for Davidson, Jonathan O'Dea has welcomed the latest moves to better utilise the St. Ives Village Green area.

"I am keenly interested in the plans, which aim to develop an important recreational area for local residents and especially young people, through the provision of a new Youth Precinct," Mr O'Dea said.

"As the local Member of Parliament, I am pleased to have successfully requested the NSW Government to allocate $150,000 towards the Youth Precinct under the recent Community Building Partnerships Program. This is the largest grant under the current Program for the Davidson Electorate.

"The recreational facilities proposed include a plaza-style BMX-skatepark, an interactive children's area, new picnic facilities, landscaping, paths, seating and lighting," Mr O'Dea said.

This Friday, Ku-ring-gai Council will hold a Youth Workshop, seeking input from local young people on the design of the new precinct and especially the long-awaited BMX-skatepark. People are encouraged to provide comment on the design features of the BMX-skatepark so they best meet their requirements.

"I congratulate Ku-ring-gai Council on providing local young people with an opportunity to meet with representatives of award-winning specialists, Convic Design, and provide input to the lay-out and development of the new Youth Precinct," Mr O'Dea said.

"The user workshop will be held at the Fitz Youth Centre, St Ives Village Green, this Friday, between 5.00 and 6.30pm. As someone with a vital interest in our local youth, I will attend the workshop," he said.

"All local residents, especially young people, are encouraged to take an active role in the creation of the new precinct, which will ultimately provide recreational facilities for all generations to enjoy.

"Site works, which will include the relocation of the existing scouts and guides halls to create more outdoor space for the Youth Precinct, are expected to begin later this year," Mr O'Dea concluded.
