Member for Davidson, Jonathan O'Dea is calling a Public Forum to consider ways of reducing the pressures on accommodation at Killara High School and the possible use of Crown land adjacent to Koola Park.

"I have repeatedly called on the NSW Government to address the appalling situation, in which almost 1,500 students are schooled in facilities originally designed for just 1,080.

"Despite many students being forced into demountables (which also reduces open space at the school), the academic performance of Killara High students has been outstanding.

"However, the current situation can not be allowed to continue," Mr O'Dea said.

"That's largely why I have called a Public Forum for Tuesday, 15 March, opposite the school and adjacent to Koola Park, from 5.45pm.

"It is possible the Crown land, adjacent to Koola Park, could be utilised by the school from this year, in conjunction with the Killara Scouts (who need to rebuild their hall) and the local community," Mr O'Dea said.

"It could provide a win-win situation for the school, scouts and others, but the NSW Government also needs to co-operate more than it has in the past.

"Koola Park is soon undergoing a major upgrade by Ku-ring-gai Council, which is welcome, but this means less access to open space for the school in 2011.

"Once the works are completed, Killara High School should also share access to the expanded ovals to help address the desperate need for additional open space and further relieve pressure on limited school facilities.

"I would encourage all interested local community members to attend the Public Forum on 15 March from 5.45pm to discuss the current proposals," Mr O'Dea concluded.
