Lindfield Scouts Mitchell Cope and Owen Wilson have been presented with Good Citizenship Awards by the Member for Davidson, Jonathan O'Dea, for making a citizen's arrest. The presentation was made at a local Scouts meeting on Friday evening, 18 February 2011.

The two Rovers from 1st Lindfield Scouts observed some suspicious behaviour and apparent robbery in Lindfield and immediately called police. They then pursued the suspect to another property in Lindfield before making a citizen's arrest.

The Member for Davidson, Jonathan O'Dea noticed the commotion when passing by and assisted the Scouts by again calling the police, who then arrived and arrested the suspect. The police also recovered some stolen property.

"Mitchell and Owen's actions are a credit to themselves, their families, the Scouts, and the Lindfield community", Mr O'Dea said.

"The Scouts movement provides young people with excellent opportunities to not only learn new skills and meet new people, but also to serve the community.

"Mitchell and Owen have applied their skills to serve the community, have demonstrated both courage and leadership, and are an excellent product of the Scouts movement", Mr O'Dea said.

"Criminal activity doesn't just have an impact upon the immediate victim; it undermines a community's feeling of security.

"By placing the interests of others ahead of their own, Mitchell and Owen have strengthened our community, making them worthy Good Citizenship Award recipients", Mr O'Dea said.
