Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has joined more than 80 of his state and federal colleagues in the annual NSW Business Chamber’s Pollies for Small Business program.
However, on arriving for work today at Pam’s Place in Lindfield – a lingerie, sleepwear, haberdashery, and children’s wear outlet – his experience was enhanced by scheduled bra fitting activities.
Proprietor, Pam Wyles said, “While I appreciate Jonathan gained hands-on experience to keep abreast of the trends in small business, we ensured no-one, including our local MP, was placed in a tricky situation.
“I welcome the opportunity to stand alongside our local businesspeople in their workplace environment,” Mr O’Dea said.
“Having previously run businesses, I appreciate how the Pollies for Small Business program provides an excellent opportunity for pollies to experience the day-to-day challenges facing different types of small business,” he said.
Stephen Cartwright, CEO of NSW Business Chamber said with much of the focus often on the big picture issues, at times the concerns of small business can get lost.
“Pollies for Small Business puts our politicians at the coalface and gives small business operators the chance to raise concerns directly with their local MP.
“This is a great program. It helps businesspeople and MPs understand one another better and we should encourage and support any measures that can help achieve that”, Mr Cartwright concluded.
“The small business sector is Australia’s largest employer and it is important that politicians who are ultimately responsible for business regulation, stay in touch with the challenges facing the industry,” Mr O’Dea said.
“The NSW Business Chamber Pollies for Small Business program is run in cooperation with the local Chamber of Commerce network and I also acknowledge the great work of the organisation in representing the local business community,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
