Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has slammed the Keneally Labor Government over its short-sighted state budget, claiming it fails to deliver for the people of Davidson and Northern Sydney.
“Residents of both Ku-ring-gai and Warringah Council areas might well ask, ‘Where’s our share?’” Mr O’Dea said.
“At a time when local councils are being told they must provide for thousands of additional dwellings, State Labor is failing to provide the necessary funding to adequately upgrade infrastructure to meet increasing demand.
“This is particularly evident in Ku-ring-gai where a State Government appointed Planning Panel and a new Town Centres Local Environment Plan has paved the way for multi-story flats, where once gracious homes stood among leafy gardens.
“Likewise, in Warringah, the same types of pressures are now being felt as the local council must now re-zone for 10,000 new homes. Despite the thousands of new dwellings, there is little from the budget to provide for increased demand on local public services including hospitals, water, roads and transport.
“There is virtually nothing for a desperately needed Northern Beaches Hospital,” Mr O’Dea said.
“Even though property owners on the proposed hospital site have been told they will need to vacate, not a sod has been turned! This is in stark contrast to the NSW Liberals & Nationals who continue to stand by their commitment to begin work on the new hospital during their first term in government,” Mr O’Dea said.
“This week’s state budget appears to be more about supporting Labor’s plans for re-election than plans for a stronger, more vibrant NSW.
“Had Labor not wasted billions of dollars through outrageous waste and mismanagement, far more could have been delivered for the people of Davidson, Northern Sydney and NSW,” Mr O’Dea said.
“Today I have given notice of a motion in Parliament, condemning the Government on its financial mismanagement and its unfair neglect of Northern Sydney,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
