An issue combining same-sex couples and adoption is sure to attract significant community interest and attention.

In early September, the NSW Parliament will consider a Bill to allow same-sex couples to adopt children, with both the Liberals-Nationals and the Labor Party to allow their MPs a conscience vote on the legislation, which was introduced by Independent MP Clover Moore.

While Member for Davidson has potential concerns about the Bill as currently proposed, he has decided to objectively ask his constituents what they think before exercising his conscience vote.

Mr O'Dea has placed a three question survey on his website to collect community opinion, including from local constituents.   Respondees can also record their comments privately.

One question asks whether you agree with the proposed change in the Bill to amend the definition of a couple and a spouse to include persons of the same sex, enabling them to adopt children.

Another question asks whether your view would change dependent on whether a child already knew and had an existing relationship with a potential parent.

"I will utilise the results of the online survey to help inform my own opinion before speaking and voting on the matter in NSW Parliament," Mr O'Dea said.

The survey can be accessed through a link on Mr O'Dea's website, www.jonathanodea.com.au
