Minister for Transport, David Campbell, has been caught out again by falsely claiming that upgrades to Lindfield station were completed two months ahead of schedule, according to Jonathan O’Dea, Member for Davidson.
“This is another example of the NSW Government’s dishonesty and sloppiness. It follows the Transport Minister’s forced admission in the past week that Labor’s prematurely released Transport Plan was not hacked off a computer and was not fully funded, contrary to his earlier assertions”, Mr O’Dea said.
“In recent correspondence, the Minister wrongly indicates that Lindfield station upgrades were completed two months ahead of schedule.
“CityRail literature foreshadowing the Lindfield station work clearly stated that the works were to be completed in mid 2009, not November 2009! (see attachment).
“November 2009 does not, on any calendar, constitute mid 2009. The works were completed behind schedule, not two months ahead of schedule. Further, a retaining wall had to be subsequently reconstructed after being built on the wrong alignment.
“In addition to the construction delay, the upgraded Lindfield station premises have been mismanaged. As part of the new building works, the government included four new retail shops adjacent to the Pacific Highway. However, all four shops have remained empty for 6 months”, Mr O’Dea said.
“The shops are located in an area that is not exposed to significant pedestrian traffic and therefore appear not to present an attractive option for business people.
“The Lindfield station project is just another example of a sloppy and wasteful government that cannot properly deliver infrastructure projects.
“With this government’s track record of waste, would you trust it to renovate your bathroom?” Mr O’Dea concluded.
