Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea is to join some well-pampered company on Sunday (21 February) when he takes part in this year’s Cat Show at the Forestville Memorial Hall.

“Pets can make an important contribution to households, teaching the young to take responsibility, while often providing valuable therapy for older members of the community.

“They can also provide great company for those living alone and much enjoyment for those who choose to show their pets,” Mr O’Dea said.

President of the Forestville Siamese and Shorthair Cat Club, Rhonda Watson said,

“The annual Forestville Cat Show has become an important event on the show calendar.

“This is the 54th consecutive year the show has been held at Forestville and has attracted entries from as far away as Griffith. Almost 200 cats will be entered from almost 100 exhibitors,” she said.

It will be a three-ring show with winners receiving ribbons and a variety of specially donated prizes from sponsors.

Mr O’Dea is to present the “Best in Show” for the five best kittens and the five best adults in the special Siamese Oriental ring.

“I think the challenge might be to keep the cats happy and purring,” Mr O’Dea said.

“While many might complain our State Labor Government has gone to the dogs, I’ll be mixing it with the feline factor at Forestville, sharing the enthusiasm of those who enjoy showing and viewing some beautiful pets,” he said.

The Cat Show will be held at the Forestville Memorial Hall on Sunday, 21 February from 10am to 4.30pm with a gold coin entry going towards sponsorship of one of the “big cats” at Taronga Zoo.
