A NSW Liberals & Nationals Government will waive the cost of photo identification cards for senior citizens, NSW Opposition Leader Barry O’Farrell and Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea said today.

This practical measure will save eligible senior citizens $44, as well as ensuring they have access to photo identification.  Mr O’Farrell said the plan was about looking after older people in NSW.

“This positive, practical plan will make things a little bit easier on our senior citizens,” Mr O’Farrell said.

“Every dollar counts to our older citizens, including pensioners. More than 300,000 people in NSW over the age of 60 do not have a driver’s licence.

“At some stage, everybody in our society needs photo identification and we will ensure that everyone has access to it.

“Our plan covers the holders of both pensioner concession cards and seniors cards. It will be available to older people with a disability support pension.

“Funding this policy will amount to just a small amount of money coming off the State’s budget bottom line, but will be a welcome addition to the budget of many older people.

“Even as a one-off charge, $44 is a lot of money to a lot of people.  We will ease the burden caused by this unnecessary State Government charge,” Mr O’Farrell said.

“The high cost of living is still hitting hard everywhere and this is a practical plan to help senior citizens in Davidson electorate, the North Shore & across NSW.

“I want to see taxes and charges minimized. Wherever possible, we will try and ease the burden on hard working families,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Senior citizens everywhere are hit particularly hard. Every little bit helps when it comes to the weekly budget.

“The Liberals & Nationals offer real change after 15 years of Labor. This measure will assist the older people in our society,” said Mr O’Dea.
