Workmen have begun demolishing a wall, the same workmen put up just months ago, at the new Lindfield Railway Station.

Chairman of the Opposition’s WasteWatch Committee, Jonathan O’Dea said, “It’s a further glaring example of State Government waste and mismanagement.

“The wall is for a garden bed on the eastern side of the newly rebuilt multi-million dollar station,” the Member for Davidson said.

“I understand it was built too close to a traffic light pole, preventing wheelchairs from using the footpath.”

“As a result, more than 10 metres of the garden wall, which is over a metre high in places, will be moved back to provide more room,” he said.

“I’m told the workman originally built the wall to plan, but the plan was wrong.

“What is the extra cost to the public of the oversight, draining potential funds that could be used on improving health, roads and education?” Mr O’Dea said.

“I am today submitting written questions in NSW Parliament to the Transport Minister, to determine the actual cost of the blunder.

“In what appears to be yet another blunder, the nearby wheel chair ramp is so difficult to negotiate, that motorised chairs are becoming stuck.

“As a result, disabled people, clearly limited in their movement, are becoming distressed,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Despite the poor design, there appears to be no attempt to correct the ramp.

“I intend writing to the Minister, highlighting the difficulty and requesting that this poor design issue is also addressed for the benefit of the disabled in our community,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
