Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea is concerned the Government’s new train timetable will be a backward step for commuters in the Davidson Electorate.

Mr O’Dea met with transport representatives recently and confirmed the cut in services to rail stations in his electorate.

Services between Lindfield and the City will be cut by around 25 percent from 149 services each weekday to just 111 services!

In the AM peak, the worst service gap at present is 12 minutes but under the new timetable this will increase to 15 minutes.

In the PM, the worst service gap increases to a staggering 19 minutes from the City to Lindfield at around 4.25 in the afternoon, when the end of the school student peak overlaps with the start of the evening worker peak.

“At a time when NSW Labor is forcing more development in the Ku-ring-gai Council area, it is further reducing public rail transport services!

“We need a better balance of new development, essential infrastructure and access to public transport,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Commuters should brace themselves for the real test of the timetable changes when the school holidays finish next Monday (19 October).

“The Government says it will monitor passenger numbers, but how will this be done? Station staff numbers are being reduced and those remaining are often selling at the ticket office, remote from platforms,” he said.

“Ticket collection at station exits is rarely carried out and the phantom T-Card exit barriers, that could monitor passenger trips, are but a dream for the future.

“It is also difficult to monitor the travel patterns of the many Seniors travelling on an all day pass.

“Travellers who experience difficulties with the new train timetables are invited to email me with the details on davidson@parliament.nsw.gov.au” Mr O’Dea concluded.
