The assault of a 12-year-old boy at Frenchs Forest, at around 5-00 pm on Wednesday, further highlights the need for children to be aware of the “Stranger Danger” message, according to Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea.

“As the father of four young boys – the oldest, also 12 – I identify strongly with the parents of this young chap,” Mr O’Dea said.

The boy was walking home on Sorlie Road, Frenchs Forest, when he was offered a lift several times by a man in a white van.

When the youngster refused, the man reached out and grabbed the boy on the shoulder. However, the boy was able to run away and the man drove off.

“I commend the young boy for his actions,” Mr O’Dea said.

“He clearly did not feel comfortable in the situation and sensed there was danger.

“It is a good lesson for all young people, when approached by strangers,” Mr O’Dea said.

“It is far better for children to act cautiously than to leave themselves open to possible physical harm and emotional scaring.”

“The damage often affects relationships for many years,” Mr O’Dea said.

The man is described as being of white European appearance, aged between 25 and 30, unshaven, with a sold build and deep voice.

He was wearing a green polo T-shirt, dark blue jeans and dark sunglasses.

The van is described as a white Toyota HiAce with tinted windows, yellow and black number plates and damage to the left rear corner panel.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
