Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea is calling on the organiser of last weekend’s Death of Democracy Rally, Chris Drummer, to come clean over his true motivation for organizing the event.
“All those who participated in the rally were there to protest over inappropriate development in Ku-ring-gai,” Mr O’Dea said.
“Claims by Mr Drummer that the Liberal’s “hijacked” the rally are outrageous. Mr Drummer and others welcomed my participation at the rally.
“As a local State Liberal MP, I offered to address the rally but Mr Drummer took more than two weeks to respond. He ultimately said that instead of speaking, he would acknowledge Barry O’Farrell and I at the rally. However, when it came to crunch, there was no acknowledgement,” Mr O’Dea said.
“Since I took office, I have fought long and hard against inappropriate development with emails, letters, meetings, media releases, articles and interviews. The Liberal Party took part in the rally to support it – not hijack it – and not to help launch someone’s self-serving political aims.
Did Mr Drummer also claim that representatives of other parties present tried to ‘hijack’ the rally?
“So come clean Mr Drummer – was this rally really a lead up to a political campaign? Has the Ku-ring-gai Resident’s Alliance been hoodwinked into becoming a support base for your own political ends?”
“Rule out standing as a candidate in upcoming elections. If you don’t, the people of Ku-ring-gai and particularly the Ku-ring-gai Resident’s Alliance can rightly feel duped.
“The most appropriate ‘hijack’ question is whether Mr Drummer has hijacked the rally for his own personal agenda?
“The best way of addressing overdevelopment in Ku-ring-gai is for residents to throw their full support behind the Liberal Party and help change the NSW Government at the March 2011 election,” Mr O’Dea said.
