Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has welcomed renewed calls for an Independent Audit on the number of new dwellings in Ku-ring-gai – a call he initially made more than 12 months ago.

“On 28 August last year I called for:

‘an urgent independent audit of the number of new dwellings proposed for the Ku-ring-gai Council area pursuant to the NSW Metropolitan Strategy.’

“I also said:

‘It is clear there is widespread apprehension and opposition from residents to the arrogant and insensitive push by Labor to impose over-development on our area.’

“Following the government’s refusal to act on my calls, it is little wonder the community is planning to take to the streets outside Parliament House on 27 September. I have offered to address the planned rally,” Mr O’Dea said.

“The failure to respond to the ongoing cries of a community, pleading for sensible and sensitive planning, is yet another example of an arrogant Government, which has lost touch with the people.

“After hosting a visit to the area by Planning Minister Keneally and meeting with her on another two occasions, as well as lodging written objections, raising relevant issues many times in Parliament and attending numerous community meetings, I will continue the fight,” Mr O’Dea said.

“I believe that consistent community opposition can achieve significant change, as reflected in the current recommendation for the deferred Lindfield Town Centre site, to be considered by the Planning Panel at its meeting tonight.

“I remain resolute that the Ku-ring-gai area should not be forced to take any more than the 10,000 new dwellings by 2031, agreed to under the Metropolitan Planning Strategy,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
