Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has lined up with other politicians to give blood today in the ‘Prick A Pollie’ Campaign during National Blood Donor Week.

“Political blood spilt on the so-called Bear Pit of State Politics can end a political career – but blood given through the Red Cross can save lives,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Political ‘foes’ have joined in a bipartisan approach to the Prick A Pollie Campaign because they realise the importance of giving blood,” he said.

Today’s launch was also attended by former Australian Navy Diver and shark bite victim, Paul De Gelder and Red Cross Management.

“I have given blood on a number of occasions in the past and I encourage as many people as possible to do the same.

“Those wanting to register as a blood donor can simply telephone the Red Cross on 13 14 95.

Anyone wanting more information on this life saving role can visit the website, www.donateblood.com.au

“Statistics show that just one in 30 Australians donate blood each year.  However, one in three Australians will need blood or a blood product at some stage in their lives.

National Blood Donor Week runs until next Sunday, as part of the ‘Year of the Blood Donor’, which aims to recognise blood donors around the country for their generosity and support.

“It also raises awareness of the need for blood donors,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Just a few moments of our time can make a lifetime of difference for others,” he said.
