I welcome the news that Stockland has today lodged a DA for the proposed remediation and demolition of its Glenrose Shopping Centre and that it is also lodging a concept plan application to re-instate a new shopping centre.

I am pleased that Stockland is allowing various traders to operate during the remediation works. Initially only Woolworths was to be allowed to remain open.

Following a public meeting I called, which was attended by over 500 local people … and through ongoing negotiations with Stockland … we have been able to secure ongoing trading for eight additional outlets.

Under the plan of works, it is anticipated the remainder of the centre will cease trading at the end of January.

I am led to believe the concept plan for the new shopping centre is smaller than previously proposed. Clearly the community was not happy with the previous concept plan.

I also welcome the news that the community will be given an opportunity to comment on the Glenrose redevelopment plans as part of Warringah Councils assessment process.

I hope Stockland ensures remediation and redevelopment of the site is undertaken in a timely manner and in a way that respects community expectations.
