Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has found another way to serve his local community – by serving customers at local small business outlets as part of the ‘Pollies for Small Business’ program.
“I was away last week, when most politicians took part in this year’s program, but didn’t want to miss the opportunity to work more closely with our small business community,” Mr O’Dea said.
“As a result, I was delighted to spend time with local Lindfield businesses, Bruno the Hairstylist and Photo Restoration Specialists.
“At Bruno’s I was pleased to speak with the owners and a number of clients about relevant issues and happy to take up a broom and sweep the floor!
“At Photo Restoration Specialists, I likewise witnessed first-hand the work of the store and the importance of excellent client service,” Mr O’Dea said.
Proprietor James Kim said, “’Pollies for Small Business’ is an excellent idea. I welcome the opportunity to work with a local MP in my workplace environment”.
CEO of the NSW Business Chamber, Stephen Cartwright said the ‘Pollies for Small Business’ Program allows MPs to see first-hand how the laws and regulations they create, impact on NSW’s 500,000 small businesses.
“Small business is the engine room of local communities but they are particularly vulnerable to changes in economic conditions in a tough year,” he said.
“I welcome the opportunity to stand alongside our local businesspeople at the ‘coalface’ Mr O’Dea said. “As someone who has previously been involved in running a business, I have an understanding of the frustrations and challenges they face.”
“The Pollies for Small Business Program is run in cooperation with the Local Chamber of Commerce and I also acknowledge the great work of the organisation in representing the local business community,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
