Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has upskilled to help improve the governance of New South Wales after the next election.

Jonathan yesterday received an Order of Merit Award, the top grade in the ‘Mastering the Boardroom’ Advanced Diploma course, conducted by the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

“State Government should be primarily about effectively overseeing the management of valuable public resources, in order to deliver efficient services and positive outcomes for our communities,” Mr O’Dea said.

“I recognise the importance of proper governance principles in running NSW and lessons to be learned from good boardroom practices”.

“Unfortunately, NSW suffers from very poor governance under the current Labor Government. The Liberal/Nationals Coalition is far better qualified to help return NSW to its former status as the Premier State,” Mr O’Dea said.

Mr O’Dea is no stranger to study and experience in the business world.  He holds two Bachelor Degrees (Arts & Law) from Sydney University and two Masters Degrees (Law & MBA) from Sydney and Deakin Universities.

He worked as a private and corporate lawyer for five years before moving into senior commercial/management roles for a decade and then into the NSW Parliament at the 2007 State election.  He has also sat on the board of various charitable, public and private organisations, including a health insurer with more than $1B annual turnover.

“While not intending to undertake any further university studies, I recognise the importance of ongoing lifelong education,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
