Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has welcomed the interest in the public meeting he has called on the future of the Glenrose Shopping Centre at Belrose.
“The aim of the meeting is to provide information about contamination issues and plans to demolish virtually all the Centre (excluding Woolworths),” Mr O’Dea said.
The plan by Centre owners, Stockland, has left some small business owners facing financial difficulties while many local residents are understandably upset over the potential removal of their local shopping facilities. The demolition has been prompted by environmental expert findings that soil beneath the complex is contaminated and needs to be remediated,” Mr O’Dea said.
“Warringah Mayor, Michael Regan and representatives of the Department of Environment and Glenrose shop retailers are expected to attend the meeting and make statements or presentations.
“It is disappointing that Stockland has declined to send a representative, although will provide a one page information sheet for attendees. They will also take outstanding questions on notice following the meeting.
“Local residents will be given an opportunity to make short statements and/or ask questions of the key stakeholders,” Mr O’Dea said.
“Given the depth of community feeling over the demolition plans, I have sent flyers to more than 3,500 households in the suburbs of Davidson and Belrose, advertising the public meeting / information forum. The meeting should address many of the concerns facing the local community and local business owners.
In the past fortnight I have been working hard with relevant stakeholders to generate a better outcome for all concerned,” Mr O’Dea said.
The public meeting will be held at the Belrose Bowling Club Auditorium, Forest Way, Belrose, tomorrow (Friday) between 5.45 and 7.00 pm.
