Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea, has taken his campaign for answers over the activities of Private Investigators directly to the Premier.
“In mid 2008, I asked the Minister for Police (Campbell) a four part Question On Notice, concerning Private Investigators’ illegally accessing personal information.
“The Minister replied by saying two of the parts were a matter for the Fair Trading Minister (Burney).
“These were then re-asked as a Question to the Minister for Fair Trading, who replied by saying they should be directed to the Police Minister!
“The Government appeared confused over which Minister was responsible,” Mr O’Dea said.
“There was then another NSW Government Ministerial re-shuffle. So I asked both new Ministers the same question again.
“The new Police Minister (Kelly, via Keneally) referred me to the previous (non) answer and the Fair Trading Minister, and the new Fair Trading Minister (Judge) referred me to the other previous (non) answer and the Police Minister,” Mr O’Dea said.
“Four different Ministers and still no answer! What future does the State have if the NSW Government is in such disarray?
“In an effort to clarify the situation, I have now asked the Premier to direct his Ministers to answer the questions,” Mr O’Dea said.
“Firstly, what action is being taken to prevent private investigators claiming they can legally access information that is not available to them? Secondly, how many private investigators have been successfully pursued in NSW for making such claims in the past two years?”
“How will Labor ever address the major issues facing the State if four Government Ministers can’t answer two simple questions between them?” Mr O’Dea concluded.
