Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has welcomed the announcement by Roads Minister, Michael Daly that a category of e-tags would soon become available with no deposit and only small administration fees.
Mr O’Dea campaigned locally against the cost of e-tags in September, when he called for ex-service personnel and others who qualified for free harbour crossings to be exempt from the upfront cost.
“It was looming as a ludicrous situation, “ Mr O’Dea said, “with those who qualified for free crossings, asked to pay for $40 or $60 for their e-tag.
“This clearly meant their free entitlement was no longer free!
“It appears the Government may be finally addressing the anomaly following Coalition criticisms, although we still do not have details of the so-called administration fees”, Mr O’Dea said.
“I will continue to monitor the situation and campaign further if the administration fees appear to become a defacto deposit,” he said.
“I want to ensure the Government delivers on its announcement properly,” Mr O’Dea said, “especially as it appears the Premier was left completely in the dark over his Minister’s announcement.
“The State Government appears confused and bewildered as it lurches from crisis to crisis. Nevertheless, many on the North Shore will welcome the Coalition’s successful lobbying and indications of action from the Minister, “Mr O’Dea concluded.
