If there was any doubt this State Government runs in circles, it has been dispelled by recent responses from Government Ministers to written questions from Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea.

“I wrote to the Police Minister, David Campbell, regarding Private Investigators illegally accessing certain information and was told by the Minister it was a matter for Fair Trading.

“Then I asked the Minister for Fair Trading, Linda Burney.  She responded with advice that it was a matter for the Police Minister,” Mr O’Dea said.

“What is the future of the State if Government Ministers don’t know where their responsibilities lie?

“It’s a real case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing, which results in confusion and wasted  time and resources” said Mr O’Dea, who is also Chair of the Opposition WasteWatch Committee.

“My questions were prompted by calls from private investigators to address anomalies and uncertainty within the industry and community,” he said.

President of the Australian Institute of Private Detectives (AIPD) John Bracey said it is extremely confusing and very difficult for the institute and the industry, to advise clients where to go to have their complaints satisfactory investigated.

“The public and the industry are totally frustrated in their efforts to acquire a satisfactory conclusion to their complaints and reach closure,” he said.

Mr O’Dea said it is clear that for justice to be evenly delivered, there must be a level and clear playing field.

“The NSW Government must begin addressing anomalies by ensuring its Ministers accept their responsibilities and are properly accountable.” Mr O’Dea concluded.
