Wakehurst MP Brad Hazzard, Manly MP Mike Baird, Pittwater MP Rob Stokes and Davidson MP Jonathan O’Dea have all supported a review into political donations.

“The community need to know the political processes are untainted and of the highest standards,” Member for Wakehurst, Brad Hazzard said today.
“The recent election saw substantial donations and massive expenditure on advertising – particularly by Labor.”

“Some in the community argue that elections should be fully publicly funded to remove imbalance between political parties spending and to ensure no tainting of political decision making.”

“These are valid issues for public discussion, which would be facilitated through the establishment of a committee of review.”

“This week in Parliament, the Liberal/Nationals Coalition voted for a review of political donations – but Labor voted against the community having its say.”

“I’m stunned Premier Iemma has directed Labor to vote down an opportunity for an unbiased review of funding for elections,” Member for Manly, Mike Baird said.

“The community is entitled to its say, but Labor wants the status quo.”

“It’s critical that Government be transparent and honest and a committee reviewing electoral funding would have given us the chance to lift standards,” Member for Pittwater, Rob Stokes said.

“A new Parliament is a time for new ideas. My Northern Beaches Liberal colleagues and I would like to see standards lifted and a committee of review would provide the opportunity to determine the best way forward,” Davidson MP Jonathan O’Dea said.
