Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has welcomed the introduction of Opal electronic ticketing on buses from Chatswood to Brooklyn.
"From today customers can use their Opal card on 24 bus routes in the area.
“Opal is already available on all trains and ferries and I am pleased that ours is the first area to have widespread acceptance of Opal on local buses,” Mr O’Dea said.
“Customers catching bus services on all routes between 556 and 599 can now access all the benefits of the Opal card including daily travel caps and free travel on any mode of public transport after eight paid journeys a week.
Mr O’Dea said, "Opal means cheaper fares for the vast majority of customers and means the ease and convenience of never having to queue for a ticket.”
An Opal bus customer catching the 558 from Lindfield Station to Wellington Road East Lindfield will only pay $2.10 for a single adult fare compared to a MyBus $2.30 fare. With the Weekly Travel Reward, a customer will pay only $16.80 a week compared to a TravelTen bus fare of $18.40.
“By setting your card to auto-top-up, customers can link their Opal to their debit or credit card and it will automatically top up when your balance gets low - like an e-tag.
“The NSW Government is improving journeys for public transport customers and I encourage locals to register now for their Opal card,” Mr O’Dea said.
Customers can also register for a new Child/Youth Opal card, which works in the same easy and convenient way as the Adult Opal card, with child fares at 50 per cent of an adult fare.
As well as bus routes between Chatswood and Brooklyn, Opal is now accepted on all Sydney Ferries services, all 308 stations on the Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink intercity networks and the 333 bus route from Circular Quay to North Bondi.
To order an Adult or Child/Youth card, go to www.opal.com.au or call 13 67 25 (13 OPAL). You can also visit the Transport for NSW stall at the Sydney Easter Show and obtain your Opal card on the spot.
