Jonathan O’Dea MP has welcomed figures indicating over 5,000 motorists in his Davidson Electorate have been rewarded with half price drivers’ licences.

This has been as part of the ‘Fair Go for Safe Drivers’ incentive scheme.

“Dangerous, selfish and stupid behaviour on our roads kills or injures hundreds of people each year,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Last July, the NSW Government launched the ‘Fair Go for Safe Drivers’ scheme to reward safe motorists and encourage others to obey the law on our roads.

“Slowing down on the roads could not only save your life – it can also save you money,” he said.

The scheme rewards motorists with an unblemished driving record for five years with a 50% reduction on the price of their drivers’ licence renewal.

More women than men are being rewarded for their safe driving, with 56% of those in the Davidson Electorate who received the discounted licences being female drivers.

“The ‘Fair Go for Safe Drivers’ scheme provides a discount of up to $81 on a licence renewal, “ Mr O’Dea said.

“The 50% discount applies whether the licence is renewed for one, three or five years.

“It’s a way of saying thank-you to motorists who do the right thing and encouraging better driving behaviour in others,” he said.

Pensioners are unaffected as they already pay nothing for their licence.
