A multicultural organisation, based in St Ives, has received financial backing from the NSW Government.
Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea said a grant of $20,000 had been approved for the Together for Humanity Foundation Limited.
The grant is from the 2013/14 Multicultural Advantage Grants Program (Community Inclusion) administered by the Community Relations Commission.
Mr O’Dea said, “The Grants Program aims to promote community harmony and encourage the participation of people from multicultural communities in all aspects of life.
“The $20,000 grant to the St Ives based Foundation is to contribute towards the Multicultural: Together with Varying Beliefs project, which aims to engage school students with ideas about assumptions, commonalities and humanity.
The Foundation began at St Ives North Public School in 2002 and its interactive programs are facilitated by a diverse team comprising a Muslim, a Jew, a Christian and sometimes indigenous and agnostic presenters.
School Program Director, Donna Jacobs Sife said, “This is about gaining tools and strategies for dealing with bullying and dealing positively with people different to ourselves.”
Together for Humanity also has an on-line resource relating to intercultural understanding at www.differencedifferently.edu.au
Mr O’Dea said, “I am pleased the Foundation has received the $20,000 grant and wish it well in its ongoing endeavours.
