Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has welcomed NSW Government funding for programs to help the most vulnerable tenants, as announced by the Minister for Fair Trading, Anthony Roberts.

Mr O’Dea said the NSW Liberals and Nationals’ commitment to maintain the Tenants’ Advice and Advocacy Program (TAAP) funding of over $9.3 million per year will help vulnerable tenants in the Davidson electorate.

Mr O’Dea said, “The NSW Government is continuing to fund the not-for-profit delivery organisations at a time when other states are decreasing their support for similar services.”

TAAP provides assistance and advocacy for social housing tenants or the vulnerable, and funding for resource services that provide specialist assistance to tenants and park residents, including consumer legal casework.

The Government is also expanding its range of services to assist tenants, landlords and agents.

NSW Fair Trading will provide added support, including telephone information services, an extended free dispute resolution service and education programs for the community and industry.

Mr O’Dea said, “Tenants, landlords and agents will benefit from the cost savings and convenience of accessing an alternative dispute resolution service to resolve a range of tenancy matters.

“TAAP service providers will now be able to focus their resources on meeting the needs of targeted clients, including social housing or vulnerable tenants.

“I would encourage any tenant in the Davidson electorate to use the TAAP service during difficult times,” Mr O’Dea said.
