Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has hit out at what he believes is inappropriate overdevelopment in the heart of Lindfield.
The independent Planning Assessment Commission has approved an eight story development in Lindfield Avenue, opposite Lindfield railway station.
The site is a transitional Part 3A site, having been called in by a previous Labor Minister and was therefore assessed by the Planning Assessment Commission.
“I believe the Planning Assessment Commission has got it wrong,” Mr O’Dea said.
“The Commission has inadequately listened to the concerns expressed by both Ku-ring-gai Council and the local community.
Mr O’Dea said, “While an appropriate redevelopment to rejuvenate the site should be welcome, the current approval is inconsistent with the planning framework for the Local Environment Plan covering the Lindfield Town Centre.
“I spoke at the recent public hearing before the Commission to express concern about the building height exceeding the relevant guidelines by a storey.
“The proposed development also exceeds the guidelines for floor space by more than 25%, having a floor space ratio of 1:3.88 instead of the guideline 1:3.0,” he said.
This development is largely a legacy of Labor’s interventionist Planning Policy through its Part 3A provision in the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act.
The O’Farrell Government has now removed Part 3A to provide the community a greater say and return consent powers to local councils for new applications on developments such as this one at Lindfield.
