In a timely report, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has found that the Auditor-General and the Audit Office are excelling in performing their roles. The report reflects well on the Auditor-General, who will leave his post shortly.
The PAC tabled a report in Parliament today, at the conclusion of its Inquiry into the efficiency and effectiveness of the Audit Office of New South Wales. The PAC examined the Audit Office’s performance in audit services and assessed the communication, staffing and resources of the office.
“This inquiry confirmed that the NSW Auditor-General has done an excellent job and his Audit Office has provided value for money in delivering financial and performance auditing services,” said Committee Chair, Mr Jonathan O’Dea MP.
“The Committee’s view has been supported by survey results, which showed 97% of parliamentarians were satisfied with the Audit Office’s reports and services, and 98% of the office’s performance audit recommendations were accepted in 2012.”
The Auditor-General, Mr Peter Achterstraat, will conclude his appointment this month after seven years as the State’s auditor. To mark the occasion and thank Mr Achterstraat for his service to the State, the PAC will host a tribute at Parliament House on Thursday evening.
The function will provide an opportunity for members of Parliament, representatives of Government agencies and other dignitaries to bid farewell to Mr Achterstraat and express their appreciation for his service as Auditor-General.
