Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has welcomed the conditional sale of the Glenrose Shopping Centre at Belrose and the potential for redevelopment of the shops.

Current owner, Stockland has agreed to terms of sale for Glenrose to Woolworths.

“This is welcome news,” Mr O’Dea said.

“There has been an air of uncertainty about the future of the community hub, since much of the complex was demolished in 2011 due to ground and water contamination.”

“Woolworths, as an anchor tenant, will obviously have a strong interest in seeing the shopping centre revitalised and serving the local community,” Mr O’Dea said.

Since much of the complex was demolished, Stockland has removed contaminated soil and agreed to continue monitoring the ground water for a number of years.

The remainder of the complex has continued to operate with a Woolworths Supermarket and 11 specialty stores.

“The conditional sale of the Glenrose Shopping Centre is a welcome step towards once again seeing the site operate more fully as a focal point for Belrose and other local residents,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Along with local residents, I look forward to seeing what the future may hold for this important community hub.

“I expect Woolworths to redevelop the site in accordance with reasonable community expectations,” Mr O’Dea said.
