The NSW Government is spending $13,000 in the Davidson electorate to restore and maintain local community war memorials.
Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea said Ku-ring-gai Council had been allocated funding from the Community War Memorials Fund for work at the Pymble Soldiers’ Memorial Park on Mona Vale Road and at St Ives Showground.
$10,000 has been allocated under the Memorial Restorative Stonework Program to upgrade the Pymble Soldiers’ Memorial Park, while $3,000 has been allocated towards an interpretive sign and plaque at St Ives Showground to explain the history of an Army relief map and use of the site in World War II by the 18th Battalion.
“Community war memorials stand as reminders of our great State’s fallen soldiers, and this funding will help to protect the memorials and restore them,” Mr O’Dea said.
“Keeping war memorials in good condition is a significant way for communities to pay tribute to lost loved ones and all those who served their country.
“The NSW Government is ensuring the sacrifices of our servicemen and women are remembered with dignity and respect,” Mr O’Dea said.
Minister for Citizenship and Communities, Victor Dominello said 24 war memorials in towns and suburbs across NSW will be upgraded and maintained due to more than $196,000 in NSW Government funding.
“We have a responsibility to honour the sacrifices that NSW servicemen and women made for our community,” Mr Dominello said.
“Grant applications to the Community War Memorials Fund are open twice per year and I encourage any community which needs funds for its memorials to consider this program.” he said.
