Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has announced that four schools in the Davidson electorate will share in $10 million of additional maintenance funding this year.

Funding has been secured as a result of savings made by the Department, which can now be redirected into schools.

The additional maintenance funding is over and above the $318 million regular school maintenance budget provided in 2012/13.

Over the past two years the Government has allocated $1.9 billion for maintenance and capital works in schools and TAFEs.

“I am proud that savings mean we can provide more resources directly to schools to improve the learning environment for students,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Since the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government was elected the school maintenance budget has increased by 22%.

“We are committed to tackling Labor’s education infrastructure backlog and maintenance liability,” Mr O’Dea said.

Davidson High School and Wakehurst Public School will receive extra funding to upgrade school grounds.

Kambora Public School will receive additional monies for new carpets while St Ives High School will use the extra funding for painting ceilings, internal walls, windows and doors.

The NSW Government is committed to upgrading school facilities and these additional funds will allow for further maintenance at about 250 schools across the state.
