The Australasian Council of Public Accounts Committees (ACPAC) has resolved to support measures to improve the safety and security of electronic information, ACPAC and NSW PAC Chair Jonathan O'Dea MP, announced today.

At its biennial meeting, the Council resolved to support measures to ensure the safety and security of electronic information, and increased co-operation between jurisdictions.

“The internet is increasingly important in financial management and recent attacks on government networks demonstrate that electronic security is vital,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Across the globe we are seeing the rapid development of online commerce, e-government, cloud-based technology and ICT applications such as e-health and e-education.

“The Council recognises the important role of parliaments and Public Accounts Committees in ensuring that cyberspace is safe, secure and resilient.

“Parliaments need to be more agile and collaborative in responding to the public’s needs in this area,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
