Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has welcomed the launch by Minister for Transport, Gladys Berejiklian, of six new apps which for the first time, provide customers with real time information about train services.
The launch comes as the NSW Government prepares for the 1 July start of Sydney Trains and NSW Trains, the two new rail operators tasked with ushering in a new era of customer service for commuters.
“This is great news for all the people in Davidson who use trains and buses to move around,” Mr O’Dea said.
“The Government is committed to providing customers with more information and the launch of these real time trains apps will benefit train users across the CityRail network.”
The launch follows the successful roll out of the real time bus apps in December which have so far been downloaded more than one million times.
Each of the six apps offers different features for customers and there are free versions, and versions costing up to $2.99. The apps are available from the iTunes Store, Google Play and Windows App Store and include:
· Maps showing trains moving around the network and their destinations;
· Real time locations of trains;
· Predicted arrival times of trains;
· Real time bus information;
· Trip planning and timetable information;
· Service information including track work, cancellations and delays;
· The option to save your favourite routes and stops for convenient access;
· The option to sort trips by time, cost and convenience;
· Wheelchair accessibility information;
· The ability to set a voice-over notification reminding you to get off the train.
Mr O’Dea said, “The apps will initially provide real time train location information for trains on the Western, Bankstown, Inner West, Northern, Cumberland, Airport and East Hills, South and North Shore Lines as well as the Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra Line to Heathcote.
“Transport for NSW will continue to work with the developers to further improve and expand the information provided for future releases,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
