The NSW Parliament will host an international conference on government finance, Mr Jonathan O'Dea MP, announced today. "NSW is pleased to be hosting the bi-ennial conference of the Australasian Council of Public Accounts Committees, for the first time since 1997," Mr O’Dea said.

Over 100 delegates will attend the conference at NSW Parliament House on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 April. The conference will be attended by Public Accounts Committees from around Australia, Indonesia, the Pacific, South Africa and the UK.

“The conference is an important opportunity to promote transparency and integrity in public finances,” said Mr O’Dea. “Holding governments to account is important in all jurisdictions. This is an excellent opportunity for members of Public Accounts Committees to keep abreast of new developments in public finance and exchange ideas.”

The keynote address at the conference will be provided by former NSW Treasurer Michael Egan.  “During his long career in Parliament, Michael Egan was a strong advocate for public financial accountability. He should make a fascinating and provocative keynote speaker,” Mr O’Dea said.

Other speakers will address topics such as oversight of non-government organisations that receive public money, and the relationship between Parliament and the Executive.
