Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has announced Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) will install a permanent variable message sign on Wakehurst Parkway at Oxford Falls to provide motorists advance warning of road incidents and improve travel time reliability.

“In July 2011, RMS invited community feedback on a proposal to install a message sign on the Wakehurst Parkway road reserve to improve motorist awareness of expected delays, incidents and available detours,” Mr O’Dea said.

“After considering community feedback and the expected benefits to motorists, RMS will proceed with the proposal to install the sign on Wakehurst Parkway southbound, approximately 160 metres south of Dreadnought Road.

“RMS will carry out work from next Tuesday, 19 March until mid-June,” Mr O’Dea said.

The work involves installing underground utilities, building the concrete footing, installing the structure, message board and cabinet, and trimming tree branches to ensure the sign is clearly visible.

Night work will be carried out from Sunday to Thursday between 8pm and 5am and some day work will be carried out from 7am to 6pm and Saturday from 8am to 1pm.

“The NSW Government has listened to the community and responded appropriately,”

Mr O’Dea said.

“I am confident travellers on the Wakehurst Parkway will benefit from this modern communication initiative to keep them up to date with travelling conditions,” he concluded.
