An inquiry has been launched to scrutinise the efficiency and effectiveness of the Audit Office, the NSW Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chair, Jonathan O'Dea MP, announced today.
“The Audit Office of NSW is a key government agency and we want to ensure that it is as effective as possible,” Mr O'Dea said.
“As part of the Inquiry, the Committee will commission an independent review to assess the Auditor-General’s compliance with world auditing standards - we will be auditing the auditors,” explained Mr O’Dea.
The Committee's inquiry will extend into whether the Audit Office provides value for money, whether it has adequate resources, and about its communication processes. Accordingly, the PAC also wants to hear from stakeholders regarding their experiences with the Audit Office.
“The Audit Office is crucial to ensuring accountability and transparency in government,” Mr O’Dea said. “It has served the public very well in the past, and we want to ensure that NSW continues to have world-class auditing practices.”
Submissions are sought by 2 May 2013. Full details of the Inquiry can be found on the Committee's website at: http://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/publicaccounts
