Member for Davidson, Jonathan O'Dea said he was shocked by news that party gatecrashers in his electorate had left an innocent 17 year old youth, fighting for life.
Police advise the incident occurred in Keldie Street Forestville on Friday night, when it is understood the youth tried to prevent gatecrashers from invading his friend's party.
As a result, the youth was speared in the head and rushed to North Shore Hospital with critical head injuries.
He has been placed in an induced coma and remains in a critical but stable condition.
"I am appalled by the behaviour of those responsible for invading a private party and I fully support the call by Police for witnesses to come forward.
"I particularly appeal to the person responsible for throwing the metal object, which struck the youth in the head, to step forward and take responsibility for their actions," Mr O'Dea said.
"Our prayers and thoughts are with the youth, fighting for life in Royal North Shore Hospital after innocently attending a friend's party.
"What was intended as a good time with friends has unnecessarily resulted in life threatening injuries through the thoughtless and reckless actions of gatecrashers.
"Our thoughts are also with the family who held the party, not expecting an innocent celebration to turn so unnecessarily violent.
"Police advise the parents had been home to supervise and been pro active in planning and implementing security measures."
"This tragic event could have been avoided. I call on those responsible to step forward and face the consequences of their actions," Mr O'Dea concluded.
