Member for Davidson, Jonathan O'Dea said, in response to today's announcement from the Minister for Education, the Hon Adrian Piccoli regarding the future of the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) site:
"I welcome the agreement in principal for a land swap deal involving UTS and TAFE NSW Sydney Institute, which will relieve pressure on school capacity in northern Sydney."
"Since I was elected in 1987, I have particularly fought for increased resources for Killara High School. As part of the solution I supported the campaign, led by Ku-ring-gai MP Barry O'Farrell, for utilisation of the UTS Ku-ring-gai campus. Along with the multi-million dollar upgrade of facilities at the Killara High School site, announced earlier this year, use of the UTS site for a senior school campus would go a long way towards addressing the capacity crisis at Killara High," Mr O'Dea said.
"For 16 years NSW Labor chose to largely ignore education accommodation needs in northern Sydney. The O'Farrell Government is now delivering solutions.
"I congratulate Premier O'Farrell and Education Minister, Adrian Piccoli on their understanding of the need, their initiative in seeking a solution and their ability to execute an agreement which will boost desperately-needed school capacity for northern Sydney students," Mr O'Dea concluded.
