Member for Davidson, Jonathan O'Dea is encouraging local communities to become involved in Graffiti Removal Day on 23 September.
"Graffiti vandalism is a scourge in our society, often desecrating important structures and otherwise attractive settings," Mr O'Dea said.
"The NSW Government is committed to reducing graffiti vandalism and has partnered with Rotary Down Under to promote Graffiti Removal Day.
"Rotary will work with local councils, property owners, government agencies, community groups, businesses and volunteers to identify, remove and prevent graffiti," he said.
People can nominate clean-up sites which have been vandalised by graffiti through the Graffiti Removal Day website, www.graffitiremovalday.org.au
Nominated sites will be assessed by a trained representative from Rotary who will work with the local council and property owner to determine if they are suitable and safe.
People can also volunteer to participate in Graffiti Removal Day by completing the volunteer registration form on the website.
In Ku-ring-gai, the main focus of the day will be the 2 disused car yards on the eastern side of the Pacific Highway, just south of the Mona Vale Road intersection at Gordon.
Graffiti Removal Day began on the north shore with leadership from John Edwards of the Epping Rotary Club before being taken up by Roger Norman and Don Wormald of Turramurra Rotary. This year, over 80 teams will tackle sites in the 50 worst-hit local government areas.
"I encourage everyone who is able to participate in Graffiti Removal Day to do so and help remove and prevent generally unsightly blights on our landscape," Mr O'Dea said.
"A few hours work could go a long way towards creating fresher, cleaner and smarter looking communities," he concluded.
