Member for Davidson, Jonathan O'Dea has enthusiastically welcomed the allocation of significant funding for major capital works at Cromehurst School, Lindfield.

"This is a special school in my electorate for special children in northern Sydney," Mr O'Dea said.

"I have visited the school on a number of occasions, toured the site and met with the dedicated staff and volunteers. Principal Christine Moulds and her team strive to provide the special needs children the best life opportunities possible.

"The need for new facilities is clear and I have lobbied the NSW Education Minister to allocate this necessary funding," he said.

Cromehurst is one of just 16 special needs schools in NSW to receive additional finances from $80 million in residual funding from the Federal Government's Building the Education Revolution (BER) program.

Education Minister, Adrian Piccoli said, "The BER Scheme was milked of millions of dollars in fees. This time, the NSW Government will not outsource the work to managing contractors and will oversee the projects itself.

"In addition, school principals will be invited to Chair the Project Control Group (PCG) to ensure the school community has a greater say in the facilities they receive," he said.

Cromehurst School will receive enhancements with new classrooms and breakout areas, as well as upgrades to administration, amenities and access.

Mr O'Dea added, "I am particularly delighted with the local funding allocation, given the recent state budget also allocated substantial capital funding for major building works at Killara High School.

"The upgrades at Cromehurst School should assist staff and volunteers to develop students' literacy, numeracy and communication skills and better equip them with life choices in society," Mr O'Dea concluded.
