Member for Davidson, Jonathan O'Dea has commended the St Ives Uniting Church for an initiative to improve the lives of older citizens.
"For more than one million older people in NSW, aged care is critical to maintaining the exceptionally high standard of living that modern Australians enjoy," Mr O'Dea said.
"The St Ives Uniting Church is to be congratulated for its initiative, aimed at improving the delivery of aged care services in the best possible environment," he said.
The Respect for Seniors Program is a grassroots campaign with the vision of creating a safe, caring community where we can all age with dignity and respect.
Stage one was completed last year with the launch of a DVD and Kit, by Minister for Ageing, Andrew Constance and subsequently distributed to all central municipal libraries across NSW.
Stage two will help determine the best way to distribute existing and future materials through established social welfare organisations and to support those organisations.
Respect for Seniors Program Director, Bob Knox said," The State Government is committed to providing practical assistance to older people, family and frontline workers on ways to reduce abuse and St Ives Uniting Church is pleased to be able to support the initiative in Ku-ring-gai and beyond.”
Mr O'Dea said, "To assist with the expansion of the program, I am pleased that the NSW Government has contributed an additional $10,000.
"This week, I formally presented present a cheque for $10,000 to help enable the program to develop and possibly expand more broadly.
"The program has great potential to deliver considerable advantages for NSW generally and particularly for the benefit of our aged citizens," Mr O'Dea concluded.
