Member for Davidson, Jonathan O'Dea has welcomed the NSW Government's allocation of extra minor maintenance money for schools across the Davidson electorate and for funding under the Public School Upgrade Program.
"The Government has delivered on its election commitment to create a $40 million Public School Upgrade Program to help renovate facilities in poor condition," Mr O'Dea said.
"For example, Gordon East Public School has been allocated $50,000 to replace worn carpet and vinyl floor coverings.
"An additional $20 million Extra Minor Maintenance Budget has boosted funding to all schools for basic maintenance. Individual schools are able to determine the maintenance work that this money is spent on," he said.
“I am pleased 14 schools in Davidson will receive extra maintenance money this year including St Ives High, Belrose, Frenchs Forest, Kambora, Roseville, Wakehurst, Lindfield East and St Ives North Public Schools.
“Labor left schools in NSW with an almost $1 billion maintenance liability and infrastructure backlog," Mr O'Dea said.
In 2012/13, the NSW Government is providing an additional $20 million for maintenance in NSW schools, building on last year’s budget. Spending on school maintenance this year will be $318 million, a 22% increase on the previous Government’s last budget. Capital expenditure on school infrastructure will be $447 million in 2012-13, which includes the building of 6 new schools and upgrade of Killara High School.
14 schools in Davidson will also receive funding for General Assistant Training.
“I am proud that the NSW Government is delivering on its election commitments and is addressing the previous Government’s school maintenance liability and infrastructure backlog," Mr O'Dea concluded.
