NSW Governor, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, has presented seven Davidson students with Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Awards at Government House.

The Gold Award is the highest level of the internationally recognised Duke of Edinburgh’s personal development program for young people and challenges young individuals to improve themselves and their communities.

Member for Davidson, Jonathan O'Dea said, “It is inspiring to see young people set themselves a challenging goal and work hard to achieve it – a view that I am sure will be shared by future employers.

"I congratulate Madeleine Borrowman, Jessica Mahon and Rosie Moloney of Brigidine College at St Ives, Timothy Goh, Orr Cohen and Leran Admani of Killara High and Louise Brammall of Roseville College on their achievement, particularly for the 12 months they spent volunteering with local community organisations."

“This year, there are more than 8500 registered participants in NSW who are undertaking an Award and the achievements of these seven Davidson students to receive a Gold Award are outstanding,' Mr O'Dea said.

Gold Award recipients have completed five key endeavours:

  • Undertaking an adventurous journey, such as bush walking, kayaking or sailing through difficult terrain;
  • Learning personal skills, in fields as diverse as sewing, car maintenance, and non-English languages;
  • Building fitness through physical recreation, such as indoor, outdoor and endurance sports;
  • Volunteering for community service, including for organisations such as Surf Life Saving, Riding for the Disabled, and Army Cadets; and
  • Undertaking a residential project away from home, such as attending a music or sporting camp or even working on a humanitarian project overseas.

Mr O'Dea said, “The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award offers valuable opportunities for young people to engage with their community and contribute as citizens.

"The Award is open to anyone between the ages of 14 and 25 and I encourage anyone interested to access further details at www.theaward.com.au," Mr O'Dea concluded.
