Member for Davidson, Jonathan O'Dea is encouraging the community to become involved in local events celebrating International Women’s Day.
“International Women's Day is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate local women’s achievements and the contribution women make to our community,” Mr O'Dea said.
“I am proud of what women in our local community have achieved. However, there is still work to be done.
"On too many issues, unacceptable inequalities remain: violence against women and girls, marked labour market segregation and the unequal division of care.
"Women are also disproportionately represented in low paid, low skilled part time work.” Mr O'Dea said.
To acknowledge and recognise the contributions of women across our State, the NSW Government is proudly holding the 2012 NSW Women of the Year Awards.
Mr O'Dea said the awards give the community an opportunity to recognise the important role and achievements of women in NSW.
“I encourage everyone to nominate an inspiring woman who makes an outstanding contribution to the local community.” Mr O'Dea said.
In choosing the recipients of the NSW Woman of the Year Awards, consideration will be given to the nominees’ achievements in 2011, as well as their previous achievements and ongoing contribution to the NSW community.
Nominations close at 11.59pm on Friday 23 March 2012 and must be made online by completing the form at www.womenoftheyear.nsw.gov.au.
