Member for Davidson, Jonathan O'Dea is facing a funding challenge.

The popularity of the Community Building Partnership Program (CBPP) has meant applications for funding far outweigh the funds available.

This has left the MP in the unenviable position of deciding which organisations he recommends to receive grants and how much they receive.

"The Community Building Partnership Program enables local councils and community groups to apply for grants to undertake capital works that will benefit the local community," Mr O'Dea said.

"Twenty four local organisations have applied for more than $1 million to assist with a wide variety of worthy projects in my electorate but only $300,000 is available.

"This means, on average, the community organisations will receive less than thirty percent of dollars applied for," Mr O'Dea said.

"I will examine the applications and make recommendations, but the final decision is made in the Premier's Department," he said.

The largest request is for $150,000 by Ku-ring-gai Council to help install floodlights on playing fields at Koola Park, East Killara, while the smallest is from a pre-school to install a shed.

Other projects include repairs and refurbishments at local Scouts and Girl Guide Halls, upgrades for sporting clubs and enhancements of local church facilities.

"The successful applicants and the amount of their grants will be announced in March next year," Mr O'Dea said.

"I thank all applicants for their interest and enthusiasm and wish them well with their respective community ventures," Mr O'Dea concluded.
