More services in Davidson will have access to appropriate resources to embed Aboriginal culture into everyday activities and engage with the local Aboriginal community, Local Member Jonathan O’Dea has announced today.

Mr O’Dea said the NSW Government’s Ngroo Walking Together program will benefit two childcare centres in the Davidson electorate.

“This program helps our community emphasise the importance of incorporating Aboriginal culture into our local children’s everyday learning, and remove barriers for Aboriginal families in accessing early childhood education,” Mr O’Dea said.

In Davidson, services participating in the Walking Together program include Belrose Kindergarten and Christ Church St Ives Preschool.

Minister for Early Childhood Education and Aboriginal Affairs Sarah Mitchell said these services make up part of the 360 services across the state now participating in the Walking Together program.

“Last year, nearly 140 services took part in the program with amazing results. This hands-on program combines cultural education training, a resource kit and staff support to help services respectfully engage with children and their local community,” Mrs Mitchell said.

“Following the success of last year’s program, this year an additional 226 services will participate in the program. I am proud the NSW Government will continue to focus on the importance of Aboriginal culture and ensuring that every child, no matter their background, has access to early childhood education,” Mrs Mitchell concluded.
