Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has announced additional NSW Government funding for a local Rural Fire Brigade while urging the public to also throw its financial support behind the valuable community organisation.

The Belrose Rural Fire Brigade is to receive $20,000 through the Community Building Partnership Program to refurbish the brigade’s 30 year old station.

Mr O’Dea said, “The station is showing its age and the funding will freshen up the headquarters through the replacement of worn carpet and discoloured ceiling tiles throughout the building, and new blinds.”

This latest announcement follows a recently announced grant of $168,000 to the Davidson Rural Fire Brigade for two new fire truck garages. This project and other works remain partly dependent on donations from the public.

“The Davidson Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade is seeking an additional $150,000 to ensure the garages are ready for the 2016/17 season,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Public donations are also sought for a dedicated education room for engaging with the public as well as a training facility to ensure the volunteers receive the best training to help better serve the community,” he said.

“The many volunteers, who are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, stand ready to defend the many thousands of homes in the Davidson electorate from bushfire.

“The volunteers also assist in other fire incidents, search and rescues, storm damage and other emergencies.

“I encourage our local community to consider making a tax deductible gift to one of the electorate’s Rural Fire Brigades this Christmas,” Mr O’Dea said.

Donations can be made online, by EFT, by cheque or in cash.
